“Mr. Chairman, I hope our Members are listening to this debate, or more importantly, are reading what this campaign finance reform bill is all about. It is about reform. It is about campaign reform. It is not about doing what the American public does not want us to do, getting more money into politics. We just had a break. Most of us were home. I never had one question, somebody coming up and saying, the problem with America right now is you are not spending enough money in your campaigns. Why do you not spend more money? I find it ironic that the party that wants to cut, squeeze, and trim government, comes here and says, ladies and gentlemen, we want to cut Federal Government, but when it comes to electing Federal Members of Congress, just spend all the money you can, just making it obscene. We do not need to raise the limit, we need to limit what people are going to spend.”
