“I have a particular interest, of course close to home, because I represent a large sector of the San Gabriel Valley in California wherein the water is polluted and a particular San Gabriel basin provides drinking water for a million people. And we have already started on a very unique plan to clean up that water, and it has taken the cooperation of business and political and local leadership and citizens to clean up, and they are cleaning up while keeping the lawsuits out that would generally stifle this kind of advancement. But now with this shutdown, we are going to see the safety and the prospects for clean water for the San Gabriel Valley affected very largely. These are the kinds of problems that are concerning all of us, I am sure. I thank the gentleman for giving us this opportunity to speak to these issues, especially the environment and what is happening with the furlough and the shutdown.”
