I thank the Presiding Officer, and I want to make one quick comment about this amendment. This is a bipartisan amendment that addresses the massive issue created by counterfeit parts getting into the defense supply system. It is something our staffs have investigated heavily. Senator McCain and I are introducing this bipartisan amendment. We hope it has strong support in this Senate. It will address a critically important issue we have now seen in the defense supply system with millions of counterfeit parts--mainly from China--getting into our defense system and threatening the security of our troops, the effectiveness of their mission, and costing the taxpayers a heck of a lot of money. This is the culmination of this year's work which is coming to the floor after great difficulty and a lot of obstacles. I want to thank the Senator again for the spirit of bipartisanship, which is a long tradition in the committee which was practiced by our predecessors. Obviously, we know on occasion that we have differences of views, and sometimes we--especially I--express those in perhaps a passionate manner.…
