I would like to announce for the information of the Senate and the public that the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations of the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs has scheduled a hearing entitled, ``Abuse of Structured Financial Products: Misusing Barrier Options to Avoid Taxes and Leverage Limits.'' The subcommittee hearing will examine a set of transactions that utilize financial engineering and structured financial products to attempt to avoid paying U.S. taxes on short-term capital gains. Witnesses will include representatives of major financial institutions, as well as tax experts from a nonprofit institution and the U.S. Government Accountability Office. A witness list will be available Friday, July 18, 2014. The Subcommittee hearing has been scheduled for Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at 9:30 a.m., in Room 216 of the Hart Senate Office Building.
