On the recordSeptember 19, 1996
I do not favor late-term abortions and believe they should only be allowed in cases where the life or health of the mother is threatened. I voted to sustain the President's veto because the bill does not allow a physician to take into account even serious threats to a woman's health, as the Supreme Court has required. I would have voted for H.R. 1833 if there had been an exception to allow their procedure where there is medical evidence that the health of the mother is indeed threatened.
