And reduce the budget deficit. Our President in his State of the Union said that we have to out- educate, out-research, out-manufacture and out-build the rest of the world. Yet the first significant piece of legislation that the Republicans moved through this House goes in exactly the opposite direction. It does in fact reduce the education. I guess 20,000 or 30,000 teachers are going to lose their jobs. Kids will not be there. But the thing that really struck me--we were talking earlier with my colleague from Maryland about this--is the research. In the area of research, which are tomorrow's jobs, what does this CR do? What does the Republican Caucus want to do? They want to cut back on the research. You're looking at a significant number. I think it's over 5,000 key researchers. Could our colleague from Maryland share with us her experience and her knowledge, because you are in one of the research centers.
