On the recordApril 22, 1998
this committee spent $6 million. They ought to have something to show for it. We have had only six public hearings over a period of 13 days, as opposed to Senator Thompson, his investigation, where they held 33 days of hearings, and they issued a 1,100 page report at a cost of less than $3.5 million. The gentleman from Indiana (Mr. Burton) it has been reported in the press is hoping to be on the committee that Speaker Gingrich will set up if there is a possible inquiry of impeachment of the President of the United States. How can we have someone on a committee to decide whether to impeach the President of the United States when a Member has already said such a vile accusation against the President, and indicated he is out to get the President of the United States? We have clear bias, a vendetta, no objectivity or fairness. He is not interested in the facts. He has already made up his mind. So I point that out. Let us stop spending money unless it is really for an investigation that will get to the facts, and not just be used recklessly for partisan purposes. I thank the gentleman for yielding to me.
