Mr. Chairman, too much dirty politics is waged with dark money, the secrecy is protected by no privilege, and a little sunlight would be very healthy for American democracy.

I think of how Henry Waxman showed America the true face of the tobacco industry, exposing decades of deceit.

Sadly, this deadly habit begins with our kids. In many cases they become hooked quickly and develop a lifelong addiction that is nearly impossible to break.

I hope this committee will initiate a detailed investigation examining this network of front groups and trade associations, determine who funds them and expose how they coordinate with industry.
