Mr. Chairman, I'm always amused when I hear people talk about government interference in our lives. If people think Medicare is an unjust government interference in their lives, they can forgo their Medicare, but I don't know too many people who would like to do that. What the Republicans are proposing is to take that Medicare away from them and turn it over to private insurance. Put that to a vote. I don't think the American people would support that either. I am pleased to yield 2 minutes to a very important member on our committee, especially the Health Committee, the Representative from the Virgin Islands (Mrs. Christensen).
