And Members of this House, climate change is real. We're experiencing its effects. According to The Washington Post, almost 2,000 high temperature records have been broken in towns and cities across America since the start of the month. Another 4,300 records have been set for high overnight temperatures. I don't think that we should short-circuit consideration of a pipeline that increases our consumption of tar sands crude with up to 40 percent higher carbon pollution. That is not in our national interest. Even the National Farmers Union is urging opposition to this legislation. They say: ``NFU continues to have serious concern regarding the Keystone XL pipeline as currently proposed. We believe all necessary time should be taken for public review and analysis of options for the proposed project. Congress should not fix a hard deadline for this process to be completed.''
