We all agree that Californians deserve to have their retirement and life savings protected from new state taxes so those savings are there when they need them.

That means getting flood-fighting supplies into position, bolstering our water infrastructure, and helping communities across the Golden State prepare.

If the feds were serious about this, they would have done this long ago — not in the middle of people voting, which inherently and needlessly sows distrust and doubt in our democracy.

The courts have made clear that the federal government has no role in how a state carries out its election process.
