Investing in research and STEM education will help our country take the lead in scientific, technological, and economic advancements. This bill will also assist my hometown of Sacramento, where we are positioned to become a leader in the clean technology sector. That is why I am pleased that Chairman Gordon has pledged to support two smart grid-related amendments that I plan to offer to the bill. My first amendment will ensure that new smart grid technologies are an important part of the Department of Energy's research and development. My second amendment will ensure that smart grid technologies are included in the list of research and development activities undertaken by the Department of Energy innovation hubs. Both of these amendments will be extremely valuable to Sacramento's continued leadership in the field of smart grid technologies.
