“Here we are day two of the hurtful Republican Government Shutdown. We still don't have a viable solution to reopen the government. The Republican refusal to back off their extreme, ideological demands has taken our country down a dangerous path with no solution in sight. Mr. Speaker, while all of us believe it is important to keep the government functioning, hostage taking is no way to run federal departments and agencies. Members of Congress are elected to make sure our government functions. Yet, instead of working on a serious option to reopen the government, Republicans latest strategy is to exploit our National Parks and the staff who work to keep them open by voting on piecemeal bills that will not end impacts of a shut down that extend across our country. Mr. Speaker, of course we want to keep our National Parks open. But let's not pretend this is not part of a strategy to score political points and advance an ideological agenda.
