Mr. President, there are so many issues on our plate this week: do everything in our power to work with our President to stop the oilspill in Louisiana, to rescue the fish and wildlife, to try to help the fishermen and the people who are so economically hurt by this, in my view, unnecessary tragedy. I take a couple of minutes to rise in support of a wonderful judicial nominee we will be voting on, Judge Lucy Koh. She has been nominated by the President to the Northern District Court of California. I also thank my dear friend, Senator Feinstein, for her support of Judge Koh. I was so proud to have recommended this nominee to President Obama. This nominee was interviewed by my Northern District Judicial Advisory Committee, and you can see, after you hear about her, why they were so clear she would make a great Federal judge. Judge Koh is the daughter of two proud parents who risked much to come to this country and provide for their children. Her mother escaped from North Korea at the age of 10 by walking for 2 weeks into South Korea--a dangerous trek that required her to hide from North Korean soldiers along the way.…”
