“I rise in support of the nomination of Derek Shearer to be Ambassador to Finland. Professor Shearer is a distinguished teacher, scholar, and public servant. He is extremely well-qualified for this position and I believe that he will be an excellent addition to the diplomatic corps. Professor Shearer is the founding director of the International and Public Affairs Center at Occidental College, which supports faculty research and organizes seminars, conferences, and lectures on international and domestic issues. Professor Shearer also established Occidental's excellent public policy program for undergraduate majors.
