I got a public education all the way from kindergarten through college. I serve in the U.S. Senate and I go toe to toe with some folks here who have gone to the best private colleges. That is America. We give our young people the educational opportunity, regardless of their income. That is what separates us out from so many other countries. It is what makes us great. It is what has built the great middle class. We need to make sure all of our young people have a chance to go to college, and we Democrats say that is what we will do. Everyone will have a chance to go to college under our opportunity agenda, which will provide tax deductions for college and job training. For children with good grades and no drug records we have proposed a $1,500 tax credit for the first 2 years of college in HOPE scholarships. The student has to maintain a B average and be drug free. Economic opportunity. We are talking about making sure if you have a family business, you do not get taxed to death when it is passed to the next generations.

There was a violent attack on our Capitol on January 6. We know what we saw. We knew it then. All these Republicans and right-wing commentators knew it then. And they decided to step back and not tell the truth. And the truth is coming out.

Frankly, anyone who runs on that as an issue should be defeated, overwhelmingly by everybody.
