We have many mayors. We had our 1,000th mayor say: Get on with it. Let's get the job done. Senator Murkowski laid out various ways that we have people working. She left out one way. The House-passed bill. The Senate Environment and Public Works had an overwhelming majority in our committee for our approach. We have Senators Kerry, Graham, and Lieberman--and I support what they are doing--trying to find the 60 votes so we can have the kind of bipartisanship Senator Murkowski lauds. We have Senators Cantwell and Collins coming together--and I am very excited about that--on a new approach on how to deal with carbon pollution, and that debate is appropriate. Let me tell my colleagues what is not appropriate: to repeal a finding that was made by scientists and health experts that carbon pollution is a danger to the health of our children, to our families, to our communities. That is inappropriate, and it has never, ever been done before. I wish to say where I stand on this. My No. 1 job as a Senator is to protect the health and safety of the people of my great State of California and the people of America. I believe that is our highest calling. The Murkowski resolution is a direct assault on the health of the American people. Make no mistake about it. You can cover it up with lots of words. You can say a lot of things about how proud you are of all the work that is going on to control carbon pollution.…
