We clearly understand what Xi Jinping's policy objectives are, what Beijing's policy objectives are, and we have to address the reality that we face today.

But those exchanges depend on trust and the ability to study, speak, and engage without fear of harassment or arbitrary detention.

It's a different Republican Party, and, I think, shame on us as Democrats if we don't actually try to understand it.

I am optimistic about the future of the U.S.-Korea relationship, about Korea's role in helping propel a 21st century that hopefully is peaceful, prosperous and kind for the next generation.
