the Biden administration has set goals for the United States to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50 percent by 2030 and to reach net-zero emissions no later than 2050.

As such, building even one new oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico will deepen the climate crisis, disproportionately imperiling low-income communities and communities of color in the process.

These targets are certainly reasonable, and they are consistent with what the world has agreed to for climate targets.
