I have to say that I do not think it is an accurate portrayal of the matters that bring us to the House floor today and that are about to bring us to a vote to selectively choose facts in a long investigative process. I cannot say that anything the gentleman from Maryland [Mr. Cardin] just rendered was inaccurate if taken by itself. But these things are not taken by themselves. Also in the special counsel's report is the quotation of another tax expert who said he did not think that there was a violation of 501(c)3 laws in any way. There was no abuse of the tax laws. It was his opinion that as long as the content of the Speaker's course as a college course was pure of political involvement, then anyone could use it anyway they wanted to, and not even the worst critic of the Speaker we heard from challenged the fact that the course itself contained no partisan directives to the class, that it was a legitimate college course. I urge the Members to adopt the recommendation of the committee.
