As a member of both the Natural Resources Committee and the Armed Services Committees, I am glad that we are having this important conversation about the crossroads between national security, our natural resources, and relationships in the Indo-Pacific Region.
We are not naive enough to think that this is all it takes, but these are the types of building block initiatives that bolster the strategically necessary relationships between the U.S. and our brothers and sisters in the Pacific Island nations.
Make no mistake, when the U.S. neglects the Pacific, China and other foreign powers will move in and offer the support to our Pacific nation neighbors.
