I, too, want to start by thanking Chairman Wolf for his service and by wishing him the best of luck on his next steps after retirement. I would also like to take a moment to thank Representative John Culberson and Representative Cory Gardner for their help on this amendment and for making this effort bipartisan. Mr. Chairman, this amendment seeks to add additional revenue to the Rural Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking Assistance Program. It is a rural program that enhances the safety of children, youth, and adults who are victims of domestic violence or who are victims of stalking or of dating violence or of sexual assault. Frankly, in rural areas across the 23rd District and in much of the country, domestic violence shelters survive on grant programs of various kinds, and money like this is the lifeblood of many of these shelters. This amendment provides additional revenue to keep those shelters open and operating and protecting these victims of crimes, victims who so desperately need protection. It also adds additional revenue to the Violence Against Women prevention and prosecution programs, which are programs that also help to assist the victims of crime. In addition to that, it helps to make sure that we put these people behind bars.…
