“the unprecedented suffering our country endured on September 11 has been met with unprecedented compassion. The American people have shown their true colors in the wake of the attacks by selflessly giving their time and money to the victims of the attacks. People from all over come to New York now. They come to visit, hold hands and it helps us. This helps us to recover, and we from New York thank you for coming. Please come in great numbers and spend money. It will help us a lot. Congress is continuing to show its strong commitment to help those most affected by September 11. This bill would extend unemployment benefits to those individuals who lost their jobs as a direct result to the attacks to 39 weeks after a major disaster has been declared. It is common-sense legislation. It says that Congress will protect American families and see them through tough economic times brought on by these attacks until they can get back on their feet. I urge my colleagues to vote in favor of H.R. 3986.”
