The Public Record
John McCain was a prominent American politician and military officer who served as a United States Senator from Arizona from 1987 until his death in 2018. A member of the Republican Party, McCain was known for his bipartisan approach and commitment to national security. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he was a prisoner of war for over five years, an experience that shaped his political career and views on military and foreign policy.
It's going to have to have some kind of pressures on the North Koreans to make them abandon this very dangerous path they're on.
There's no moral equivalency between racist and Americans standing up to defy hate and bigotry. The President of the United States should say so.
You have to be sure you can do what you say you're going to do, walk softly, carry a big stick.
I think that the rotund leader in Pyongyang is not crazy but he certainly is ready to go to the brink.
I take exception to the president's comments, because you've got to be sure that you can do what you say you're going to do. In other words, the old walk softly by carry a big stick.
Going forward, I hope the President will be as vocal about Russia's aggressive behavior as he was about his concerns with this legislation.
The concerns expressed in the president's signing statement are hardly surprising, though misplaced.
An announcement of this magnitude should not be done by Twitter. Any able-bodied legal American who wants to serve their country should be able to do so.

It's likely that this bill will ultimately fail, and then perhaps everyone can take a deep breath, start from scratch and work together.
If they're not doing enough to work together and that the body, the greatest deliberative body in the history of the United States, has not done a very good job living up to that reputation.
Senator McCain looks forward to returning to the United States Senate tomorrow to continue working on the important legislation, including health care reform, the National Defense Authorization Act, and new sanctions on Russia, Iran and…
I greatly appreciate the outpouring of support, unfortunately for my sparring partners in Congress, I'll be back soon. So stand by.
As your committee Chairman, John McCain, has often said, Russia is a gas station with a real economy the size of Denmark's.
As John McCain famously said 'Russia is a gas-station with an economy the size of Denmark.'
The painful lesson of the 20th century is that American ambivalence only increases the likelihood of conflict in Europe and a direct challenge to our national interests.
The defense of the free world is the purpose where we try to rally folks around democratic institutions, rule of law, free media.
Changing Russia's behavior will not be quick or easy, but the stakes are simply too high not to try.
The United States cannot be a credible critic of Russian aggression if it does not provide a strong alternative example.
Our alliances are our greatest foreign policy advantage, and I think it behooves us all to remember that.
The coup attempt in Montenegro serves to further reinforce what we should already know, that more must urgently be done to better protect ourselves and our allies from Russia's systemic campaign to undermine the very foundations of Western…
