The Republican Party may believe or elected officials may believe that this will give them some short term benefit.

The alarm among Republicans in the Senate privately is palpable. They feel the President may be able to navigate issues like the peaceful transfer of power, Proud Boys, white supremacy, and somehow through relentlessness and shamelessness…

If you just dismiss all of that and just talk politics, at some point here soon, Republicans are going to have to decide whether or not they want to be tethered to the president politically.

I think it's certainly detrimental to the country, and I think ultimately detrimental to Republicans.
