“Mr. Speaker, the resolution commends 50 years of relations between the United States and the Republic of Korea. The resolution also congratulates the Republic of Korea on its 50th anniversary of its founding. The resolution also supports the new president, Kim Dae-Jung, and the government, and deals with the Republic of Korea's economic problems. The resolution also confirms that the questions of peace, security and reunification of the Korean peninsula are matters for the Korean people to decide, and that the four party talks compliment direct North-South dialogue.
