We are celebrating today the public interest in America that has to be advanced.

Today's vote on the 17 special interest environmental riders is a step in the right direction, but we still have a long way to go if we are to stop Congress' assault on public health and the environment.

Parents must teach right from wrong, and we must all support that.

It is up to the rest of us to support you as well as we possibly can.

That's why I have said repeatedly I think it is a mistake to balance the budget if we cut education or if we harm the health care system or undermine the environment or weaken law enforcement or raise taxes on working families.

The Authority was specifically mandated to assist in District budgetary and management reform.

I urge the people of the United States to observe this month with appropriate activities and programs and to participate in efforts to find permanent homes for waiting children.
