Bill Clinton
The Public Record
I urge the United States Senate to support this convention to demonstrate our commitment and enhance our ability to help lead the world in eliminating the worst forms of child labor.
The White House announced that the President will attend the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders Meeting September 12-13 in Auckland, New Zealand.
Under the convention, the United States and all ratifying nations accept a basic obligation to 'take immediate and effective measures to secure the prohibition and elimination of the worst forms of child labor, as a matter of urgency.'
I will not see, after 6 1/2 years of progress, us return to the problems that we faced in the years before I took office.
This country is a stronger country because we have looked to the future and tried to put people first.
We can do something that would have seemed impossible just a few years ago.
