It is a fair question to ask this morning, what is right and what is wrong with the President's climate agenda.

I hope you will review that and be accurate when you discuss as a public official the facts, when you relate them to the American people. And I believe your facts are wrong.

We have not uncovered any official efforts to suppress dissent or any intent to intrude into people's private lives without legal justification.

I think we would be smarter to help assist the technology development than to issue mandates before we have technology capable of meeting the mandates.

I believe that we do need to evaluate where we are with ethanol. I have supported that in the past and was very confident about cellulosic research and development possibilities.

That represents a reality that we are going to have to deal with...

I supported the law that we would have cellulosic mandates, and we thought we would have some things happening...

It was supposed to be the brightest prospect for a long time, was it not?

But it would be naive and a big error if we were to think we can just walk away from incarcerating dangerous people.

So all I would say to our colleagues is there is no doubt in my mind that moving from a revolving door where people would come in and they would be given probation and then they would be released on bail for the second, third, and fourth…

But we have got to have a breakthrough. More people in prison need to be working.

Senator Durbin and I did work together on legislation to ease some of the sentences for crack and other penalties.

We have had an increase in violent crime rates.

I think we invest a lot of money because the Federal Government wants to have the highest and best prison system.

I believe in terms of cost we spend too much per prisoner in the Federal system.

I just would say to my colleagues I think there is a decline in Federal and State incarceration rates from the time 1981 when I was made United States Attorney.

I do not believe we need dramatic, draconian changes in discovery.

But it is not necessarily justice if you do not owe the claim, number one. It is not justice if you do not owe the claim.

One of the biggest damages to justice in America I think has been bogus lawsuits filed at great cost.

I believe it is proceeding in the proper way with public hearings beginning, I believe, this week.

I think proportionality, as in this rule, does seem to bring the judge in.
