We’re asking councils to support as many applications for special events as possible, because the last thing any of us want to see is people being turfed indoors half way through penalties.

The chancellor pointed to devolving aspects of income tax, as we discussed, but certainly we look at business rates, too – or elements of business rates.

Serving as the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government has been the honour of my life and although I am disappointed to be leaving Government now, I wish your new team every success.

Currently this is an idea that’s being looked at. It’s not a worked-up policy, but in principle, because fiscal devolution is on the table, that’s certainly an area we’d look at.
