Steve Reed: “the public do not want a general election”

Serving as the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government has been the honour of my life and although I am disappointed to be leaving Government now, I wish your new team every success.

Keir Starmer showed loyalty to me by appointing me to his Cabinet. I make no apology for returning that loyalty.

Trust in politics is at an all-time low. Time and again, people have voted for change, time and again change never came.

They feel locked out of prosperity, locked out of power, and locked out of the future. So we have to do things differently, but first we have to understand what’s gone wrong.
