An Indian gentleman has been placed on the Council of the Viceroy--not an everyday transaction.

What I wish to insist upon is, not that that system was good, but that the statesman who undertook to overthrow it, should have had something to put in its place.

But as I read it, as I listen to serious Indian experts with large experience, it all sounds estrangement and alienation even though it be no worse than superficial.

What I expect is a healthful, slow fermentation in many minds, working towards the final product.
