The economy today is stronger, fairer and more resilient because of the choices we have taken as a Labour Government over the past two years.

Our choices mean the economy is in a better position to deal with the costs of the war in Iran while kickstarting long-term growth by focusing on our three big choices – boosting AI, regional growth and strengthening trade with the EU.

Having more decision makers, both officials and ministers, based in the north of England and in different parts of the country, would be a good thing for policy making.

I know that whoever is prime minister and chancellor in the future will inherit a stronger economy than the one I inherited two years ago.
