On this day 175 years ago the representatives of the American people declared the independence of the United States.

In the cultural field, it has also been agreed to enter upon the negotiation at an early date of a cultural convention between Ecuador and the United States to improve and broaden the cultural relations between the two countries.

Ecuador and the United States are working together with the other free nations to assure the security and peace of the world.

The continuation of that assistance is of great importance to the successful achievement of the foreign policy aims of the United States.

The United States is now providing relief and a small amount of assistance in rehabilitation to the Republic of Korea under Public Law 793-80th Congress.

The United States through direct negotiations with the Soviet Union sought to restore the unity of Korea.

The United States terminated its military government in Korea upon the inauguration of the Government of the Republic of Korea and recognized the new government on New Year's Day, 1949.
