Washington's become more concerned about the next election than the next generation.

These are not small changes.

We did not break into what we thought was a secret meeting.

Every day that goes by, another 14,000 Americans lose their health care coverage.

We are on the precipice of an achievement that's eluded Congresses and Presidents for generations.

These aren't small changes; these are big changes.

We're not finished with our task, far from it.

We expect an extraordinary commitment from them to help rebuild our economy.

If they wish to fight commonsense consumer protections, that's a fight I'm more than willing to have.

We can't afford to let the same phony arguments and bad habits of Washington kill financial reform.

My solemn commitment is to work every day, in every way that I can, to push this recovery forward.

We will not eradicate violent conflict in our lifetimes.

And for that, I am grateful not only to the current committee but past committee members who I know are here.

Our actions matter and can bend history in the direction of justice.

Ultimately, that's what health reform is really about.

I came to Washington with a promise to change how our Government deals with difficult issues like this.

I pledged my commitment to resolving this issue, and I am proud that my administration has taken this step today.
