The quality of our life is not yet what we would hope.

Hope is the force that drives us to overcome challenges and pursue our dreams.

The signs are hopeful.

I want you, all of us in this country and this great rally, to address ourselves to the hopes and to the dreams that unite America, that unite us, whatever our party, whatever our background.

As American troops return home with honor from another distant conflict, the hope is strong for a full generation of peace.

A patriotic American is never so proud of the flag under which he lives as when it comes to mean to others, as well as to himself, a symbol of hope and liberty and freedom.

Our thoughts, our hopes, our dreams are for our children— not just our family's children but for the children of our countries, the children of all the world.

I firmly believe that, in this Christmas season, we can look forward with greater confidence than at any time since World War II to the prospect that our children can have, at last, what we all devoutly hope for: a generation of peace.

The refreshing little flower emblem that has been used as the symbol of this Conference is a reminder to us of one very simple and very basic truth: that the world of the child is different and very special, and full of promise and very much alive.

I call upon the Congress now to complete its work of hope for millions of Americans who now look to it for action.

The chance to learn is their brightest hope and must command our full determination.

CHRISTMAS is a time for hope.

Tonight, with prayerful hope for the future, we have come here to light the Nation's Christmas tree.

But let us here tonight dedicate this Christmas tree with hope and great confidence.

I wish I could tell you that what you have fought for, peace in the world, is just around the corner, but there will be some long and difficult days ahead.
