The cut in funding for debt reduction programs would preclude our leadership in reducing debt of the poorest countries.

Communities across the country need to know that Congress will live up to the bipartisan commitment we made last fall to fund this effort.

The legislation includes no authorization for additional funding to fulfill these requirements.

It triples our budget for after-school and summer school programs to $600 million.

It is critically important that the Census Bureau have the funding it needs to implement its 2000 census plan.

The answer is to put competition, change, excellence, accountability back into the public school system, not to take limited funds away from it.
