So as we look at America at this Christmas season, I think rather than apologizing for our great, strong private enterprise economy, we should recognize that we are very fortunate to have it.

Our concern at this Conference is with the well-being of 55 million individual human beings who happen to be children under the age of 14, and who represent, one-fourth of all the people in America.

The heart of America grieves today.

This new Act will improve our foreign relations and promote a better understanding of America throughout the world.

I have come tonight to ask this Congress and this Nation to resolve that issue: to meet our commitments at home and abroad-to continue to build a better America--and to reaffirm this Nation's allegiance to freedom.

History has cast our country as the leader of the free world and you, by your valor and vigilance and courage, are proving America worthy to lead.

Now America is older and perhaps wiser.

That light--and that promise--was America's Bill of Rights.

Exactly 175 years ago today America sent another light out into the world.

America does not fail them.

We in America love and cherish our liberty and our independence and our freedom, and we do not try to impose it upon other people.

I extend to you, Mr. President, and to all the people of Korea, America's hand of friendship and admiration, and I look forward eagerly to the next few days that I shall spend here with you and your countrymen.

Soon we will return to our own America.

And I repeat to you: America keeps its commitments.

Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are not only our hope for America; they are what we hope for all the world.

In my transportation message to the Congress, I said, 'America lacks a coordinated transportation system that permits travelers and goods to move conveniently and efficiently' across the country.

The whole Nation now understands the true significance of America's space efforts.

I want to be judged--as we judge the great conservationists of yesterday--as benefactors of our people and as builders of a more beautiful America.
