Accountability

The grownups have to take responsibility for this.

The bill fails to encourage each State to develop a single, rigorous accountability system for Title I and non-Title I schools.

Our Government must lead by example.

We know what works. We don't have an excuse anymore.

It fails to include a key accountability initiative to help turn around failing schools.

Where there is rising accountability to go with rising standards, we have seen progress.

The States have already been given several years to implement accountability systems.

We've waited a long time for this day, and the American people are entitled to know where their Members stand and why.

The Government can no longer ignore them.

I will have to disclose it.

I believe we should dramatically change it to hold schools and school districts and States more accountable for results.

We will not forget these crimes, nor rest until those who committed them are brought to justice.

We have a responsibility to fulfill. We were hired to do the public's business, and they expect us to do it.

The idea behind the 'Education Accountability Act,' which I will send to Congress next month, is to say after, now more than 15 years of education research and efforts... it is time for the Federal Government to invest in those things…

This is not an accident.

No matter what it takes, we must find those responsible for these evil acts and see that justice is done.
