And massively increases taxes at a time when we are trying to recover our economy. It is a nonstarter on both sides of the aisle, as you know, Madam Secretary.

We are challenged in conducting rigorous oversight to strengthen U.S. financial systems and ensure that the dollars that taxpayers have entrusted to us with are spent responsibly.

I am deeply concerned by these reports, that such a program would not only constitute a misuse of the ESF, but it would circumvent Congress's role in approving such an action.

Unfortunately, our Nation has accumulated an unprecedented amount of debt at levels that are unsustainable at this point.

It damages the confidence of taxpayers in America.

We are facing an unprecedented spending epidemic. We are in a deficit spending situation.

My concern, however, is when the agency diverts these resources and spends these dollars on initiatives not even within the authority of the SEC.
