As I mentioned in my opening remarks, Chairman Menendez and I worked together on legislation calling for a comprehensive strategy to be developed with regards to China.

I was of the view that it was unlikely that China would immediately invade Taiwan.

Social Security won't run out of surplus money until 2033, then afterwards we're in a crisis because people will only be getting 77 percent of what they're getting right now.

We need to ensure that these taxpayers funds that we call Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid are used wisely to address pressing health issues facing Americans.

I look and believe that intelligence and threat assessment is probably the one area that is most critical to being able to protect our citizens.

But we have learned from some of the security gaps that have existed in the past, and we have made an effort to become safer as a Nation.

The coordination between Federal, State, and local agencies has become a high priority after September 11, 2001 (9/11), as well as after the bombing in Boston.

I appreciate the witnesses that are here, able to describe some of the lessons we have learned from that terrible tragedy a decade ago.

We need to ensure that these taxpayers funds that we call Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid are used wisely to address pressing health issues facing Americans.

I must admit, that which gave me the greatest confidence that our games would be safe was that the FBI put in place a very substantial intelligence capability in Utah prior to the games.
