I`d hope we would move legislation very, very quickly, because, on top of the present inflation, it would be enormously burdensome to the American people.

We can actually write legislation to penalize those who would gouge.

I think the president can use his bully pulpit.

I think that`s one of the reasons why Putin has nothing else to do but to show the Russian people he can be a bully. And that`s what he`s doing.

Frankly, Joy, I`m very concerned about President Zelensky and his cabinet, who are obviously in Kyiv and who are obviously, I believe, targets of potential violence.

We cannot leave them alone.

So, they want their democracy to be preserved, and they want to be able to ensure that their friends will not leave them as they`re battling against this despot, this terrorist.

They want help. Literally, they`re asking for as forceful an effort by the NATO allies and other freedom-loving nations as can possibly be.

So, I think the financial sanctions, defensive financial sanctions, as harsh as they can be, will possibly bring Putin to his knees.

These are real people who are under real stress, real peril. And they are a real democracy that needs defending, so that we can make sure that we keep democracies like that, keep the continent of Europe stable and secure.

I hope that my Republican allies, colleagues on the other side of the aisle will work together with the Democrats to make sure that we put together the mother of all sanctions packages.

First of all, I and my Republican colleagues have been on record for well over a year warning about inflation risk, warning about the excessive spending.

I hope the Nation wakes up and responds in a way that will bring this to an end.
