It certainly wasn't transparent, and I think as this committee has investigated in past hearings, that initially there were not the proper checks and balances in place for a lot of these loans.

I don't think Congress should appropriate any more money for these programs. I think the time for federal subsidies, if there ever was one, has passed.

In my view, there should be. These sorts of government investments should be subject to a detailed cost-benefit analysis.

I would just love to hear more about how your union and how your membership reaches out to our minority community.

You have to show up when you are invited and at least respond to the request.

We have introduced this year legislation similar to what he wanted in the Keystone pipeline to encourage the unions.

Let's commit at least to that, to providing more opportunities to provide jobs that I think could cure a lot of the social challenges, as well as the relationship challenges, that we seem to be facing today.

I don't think you can change in midstream.

I do want to get into this consultation process a bit.

I sited the original Keystone pipeline through North Dakota, through 600 landowners' land, nine counties, and they are very grateful, those rural counties, for that property tax relief that is offered.

We need to do a better job holding people accountable.

I do believe that enforcement is a strong deterrent in white-collar crime.

I always want to point out that we cannot leave our Native American citizens behind.

I want to associate myself with the remarks of Senator Scott, but I also want at least some consideration for the underemployment and unemployment of Native American citizens.

What is on the horizon? What are the challenges that we are going to have?

I think our challenge right now is that we look for the easy fix. None of this is easy.
