Using the rhetoric of rage and calling some of our fellow Americans ‘scum’ — no matter how profound our differences — only creates more division and makes it harder to heal.

Violence transcends party lines — and the way to address it and have true peaceful debate is for leaders to speak and act with moral clarity. That needs to start with the President.

We are at an inflection point in America.

No one party is immune from political violence.

I condemn this in the strongest terms. There is ZERO place in our great country for these horrendous acts of political violence.

Now is not a time to disrupt that with distrust, the way the president is doing in other communities.

Ever since the president made what I think is a wrongheaded decision to take the guard away from the governor and put them on the streets of Los Angeles, we are, have been preparing for such a thing to happen here in Philadelphia.

No one should be above the law — not princes, not elected officials, not wealthy billionaires — and it was the government itself that failed these women.
