Michigan is again suffering from Canada’s wildfire crisis.

As you know, wildfires are a challenge our countries share, and they pose a significant threat to life, property, and the communities we have the privilege of representing.

Canada’s inability to mitigate, contain, and prevent its wildfires must be addressed. These annual fires significantly harm not only our health and quality of life, but also our economic prosperity.

Therefore, we promptly request a meeting no later than July 24, 2026, to discuss what steps can be taken to address the wildfires plaguing both of our countries.

The quality of care a pregnant woman receives should not depend on the color of her skin, where she lives, or her income.

If the pollution is so bad that it’s dangerous to the players or it’s dangerous to the fans, the first person to say don’t hold the game will be the President of the United States.

Public servants and our government are stewards of taxpayer dollars, not owners of it.

If Canada will not manage its forests to prevent these fires, the United States will look elsewhere, and act on our own, to protect our people.

Michiganders shouldn’t have to breathe Canada’s negligence. YEAR AFTER YEAR the smoke crosses the border while Canada does nothing. Stop exporting your smoke into our skies. Enough is enough!

Americans expect taxpayer money to be spent responsibly, transparently, and in the public interest.

This is the third consecutive year we have had to write to Canadian officials about a crisis that Canada has the tools to prevent and has chosen not to.

Our constituents are breathing the consequences of this failure right now, and they deserve better than to be told, again, that it will be handled.

Sovereignty comes with responsibility, and the responsibility to prevent a foreseeable disaster from crossing into another country’s airspace has not been met.

FINAL WARNING TO CANADA: Manage your forests to prevent these fires. American lungs are paying the price for Canadian inaction, year after year.

This is not merely an accusation of financial misconduct — it is an indictment of an entire governing philosophy.

Sovereignty comes with responsibility, and the responsibility to prevent a foreseeable disaster from crossing into another country's airspace has not been met.

Our hospitals are once again treating children, dialysis patients and older residents for the effects of smoke that did not originate anywhere near them.

We need workhorses in the Senate, and we need someone who can do that job from day one. This is not a place for on-the-job training.
