First, we are just beginning to defend marriage. This debate may go well beyond this year. I anticipate we will have more votes. But the message is, we are just beginning. Second, this is a moderate amendment. We do allow States the opportunity to find civil unions and domestic partnerships. This is not a civil rights union. This is not a civil rights issue.
