While I believe a full and fair debate of Presidential nominees is of paramount importance, obstructing an up-or-down vote fails the public trust and is a disservice to our system of justice. The Senate must resist temptations to alter the basic tenets of the Constitution. Instead, the Senate must move forward with the business of the Nation and can start by voting on the nomination of Miguel Estrada. Again, we ought to look at the chart and remind ourselves of the key point in the editorials. The Denver Post said: The key point is that there should be a vote. . . . A filibuster should play no part in the process. The Rocky Mountain News says: The Democrats have no excuse for keeping others from voting their consciences on this particular matter. It is simply out of line.
