Trent Lott: “We are there now, and whether you agree with that or not we've got to figure out how we complete this job.”

First of all, there's going to be an election and the numbers will be different come this fall. And you're going to need leadership from the President and from the leaders in the Congress.

When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We`re proud of him. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn`t have had all these problems over all these years either.

My recommendation to the Congress and to the president would be, quit campaigning, quit having press conferences. Sit down at a round table and negotiate a deal.

Would you at the very least sit down with him and listen to him?
