What we are talking about with the amendment here is getting at the heart of our democracy, of our form of government. Of course we are interested in taxpayer rights, and I support the underlying bill, but the Doggett amendment should be in order. We are talking about transparency. The 527 organizations seek to influence elections under the cloak of secrecy. And I can tell my colleagues, Mr. Speaker, that we have not seen the worst. The worst is yet to come. I hope that this House will see fit to adopt the Doggett amendment.
