“I am aware that S. 1745 provides an additional $43 million to keep the F- and H-canyon processing facilities in full operation in order to accelerate treatment of spent nuclear fuel and other wastes located at Savannah River. I am also aware that S. 1745 provides an additional $15 million for the newly constructed defense waste processing facility to accelerate the volume of wastes to be processed and packaged for disposal. I fully support these initiatives and will ensure that they are among my highest priorities as the Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee moves forward with its fiscal year 1997 appropriations bill and that bill is signed into law.”
